WELCOME

This institution was started in 1995 as a humble step for the development of differently abled children. It was, at first for a group of 5 children including the daughter of the present Director and 4 other children of the neighboring area. Within weeks the number started growing up, beyond control. The need of a well-developed school was keenly felt. Steps were taken to get it registered under the charitable society act 1955. A group of noble and social minded personalities joined the venture by sending their children. The dream has come into a reality. Now it is a full-fledged ideal school in Kollam District, attracting children from Karunagappally, Kollam and Kunnathur Taluks. The lack of such schools in our Taluks to cater to the needs of the great number of children compelled us to start another school at Sankaramangalam, Kollam. Here at Karuna Special School education is free for all, with free transportation, free food and free medical aid.

Curricular:

We follow a good curriculum to suit the needs of differently abled children as per norms. We go by the check list program developed by the National institute for mentally handicapped and Kiranam.

We have the service of psychologists, doctors and other experts to group children considering the chronological and mental ages. The different levels are as follows.
1. Severe
2. Pre- primary
3.   Primary- 1
4.   Primary- 2
5.   Secondary
6.   Pre- Vocational -1
7.   Pre- Vocational -2

Our curriculum encompasses all the programs prescribed by the check list of NIMH and Kiranam special attention is paid to the censoring motor activities of the students. We avail ourselves of the service of doctors, physiologists and counselors for the education of the children. A team of dedicated special teachers work hard for these students. We also make use of the service of Speech therapist, physiotherapist, dance and music teachers.

We have the noble ideas to help the marginalized mentally challenged children.
We also aim at reducing the tension and sad feelings of the parents of this mentally challenged children.
We also try to develop the skills of these children; we make them help themselves to the extent possible. We also aim at bringing joy, peace and happiness to these suffering children.
